HANDs Scenarios by Tobias Berglund

Scenario 1

Jim is a fourteen year old boy who has gone from having many behavioural problems to being a well functioning and independent person. He travels to and from school with public transportations. Hes “freedom” can many times cause him problems, as he has trouble with impulse control. He often leaves home very early in the morning and can show up at school about 1 hour before it starts. When Jim finishes school he often goes on a trip somewhere, it could be a radio or tv station or go to a mall. Hes main problem when it come to his impulse control is that he has trouble following several social rules, especially when it comes to when it is appropriate to visit/seek up someone, it could be staff at school or a radiohost who he dig, this mainly happens on his way to and from school, for example, if he hears that one of “his” radio hosts is ill and not will be able to host the show , he can go and visit this person just to say “get better” , this can sometimes lead him into bothersome situations.

Scenario 2

Stefanie is a girl who is fourteen years old. She likes to come too school and performs well in her studies, she is very independent when it comes to work in school, when she has access to staff, the staff doesn`t necessarily need to be in the same room but she have to know that they are in the vicinities.

She often gets insecure when she is supposed to do something by herself, she then demands that staff follows her to and from activities in even if it only means a short walk across the schoolyard. This often gets her into arguments when she also wants to decide which staffmember that is to escort her,

She also bully and boss around with classmates when staff not is in the same room, and when confronted she gets angry at her classmates and at staff “cause she is only trying to keep order in the classroom” , in both situations this later leads to her being rueful and sad, telling that she is sorry and that she knows not to do so.

Scenario 3

Lars is 16 years old he is very “socially competent” . He has some things he is phobic about but especially food. Lars asks questions about which food is to be served for lunch, and has imagenary thoughts about the most strange dishes and is afraid that he would sometime get one of them. ( in sweden pupils get lunch at school) He also has problems not knowing where the food comes from, who have cooked it and if the kitchen where it was cooked is clean. When eating out is the same thing, with one exception, Mc Donalds, Lars says that he knows that “at McDonalds it is always clean in the kitchen and the staff is always rigorous about their hygiene” . He also is phobic about germs and bacteria, and can ask ig he will get sick just because someone touched him or that he was in the same room where someone sneezed. If he not get convinced in any of the cases above he gets very anxious and can almost have a breakdown.

Scenario 4

Simon is a 14 year old boy who often gets into conflicts, this is because he often feels threatened by other pupils, it can be enough that someone looks at him and he feels like they stare at him and he then wonders if they do so to tease him. When he has been in a conflict with someone he gets very revengeful and he then constantly needs to know where that person is, if that person is talking about him , when he see that person again he have an urge to go and confront him over and over again, and this inevitably leads to a very difficult situation for Simon
